Anton Ostrowski
#52 Ancestors in 52 weeks. This week I have chosen Anton OSTROWSKI, my 3rd great-grandfather.
- He was born to Casimir Ostrowski & Marianna Hert in in Putzig, Westpreußen, Preußen, Germany on October 8, 1834. (His death certificate states his birthday as October 10th)
- His last name has been seen many ways, Ostrowski, Ostroske, Astroski, Ostrovsky, etc.
- He married Josephine Kuttni on Putzig, Prussia on November 21, 1859. Anton is 25 years old, and Josephine is 30 years old, and witnesses appear to be Jacob Brzozowski & Anton Hinsla.
- He immigrated in 1866-1868. per the 1900 census.
- He appeared as “Anton Ostrovsky” on the census on 1870 July 29 in Detroit, Michigan. He is a 30 year old laborer who cannot read or write and he lives next door to his brother Martin.
- He appeared as “Anthony Ostrowski” on the census on 1880 June 9 in Detroit, Michigan. He is a 46 year old German sewer contractor who is able to read and write.
- He appeared as “Anton Ostroski” in the city directory of 1885 in Detroit, Michigan and is listed as a foreman who lives at 73 Hale.
- He appeared as “Anthony Ostrowski” on the census on 1900 June 8 in Detroit, Michigan. He is a 64 year old landlord, and his citizenship is pending. A young 18 year old boarder by the name of Mary Philipski lives with them.
- He died of arteriosclerosis on 1909 June 29 in Detroit, Michigan when he was 74 years old.
- His obituary was published in the Detroit News on 1909 July 1 in Detroit, Michigan.
