Sympathy Saturday – Martin Ostrowski



Martin Ostrowski died August 21, 1898 in Detroit, Michigan.  He was born in Germany to “John & Mary” Ostrowski and worked as a laborer until his death.  He died of cystitis, a bladder infection, at age 68.  He leaves behind his wife and 5 adult children and rests in Mt. Elliott Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.  (3rd great-granduncle)

Married to Frances Karschina in 1898, father of 10 children, 6 dying as infants.

Immigration:  about 1868, naturalized citizen by 1910, though in 1920 he states his citizenship is still pending

Last Known Residence:  Detroit, Michigan

Education:  able to read, write and speak English

Occupation:  Tailor

Death:  November 16, 1926 of a diabetic coma.

Sympathy Saturday – Josephine (Kuttni) Ostrowski


She was born in Putzig, Prussia, and on her baptism register her parents are recorded Lorenz Kuttni & Marianna Meyer.  She was the oldest of 7 children, and married Anton Ostrowski when she was 33 years old.  She immigrated with him and their children about 1868, and the family shows up on the Detroit 1870 census.  She was the mother of 4 children, and she is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.  Her son John married Elisabeth Lachowski in 1885.

Sympathy Saturday – Alice Schulte

Alice Marie Schulte lived and died between the census years… her young life ended by scarlet fever.

She was the only daughter of Edmund Schulte & Lillian Ostrowski.

Alice was my grandfather’s sister… I remember him mentioning her once or twice.

1919 – John DAVISON died 95 years ago in Chicago, Illinois at 80 years old.  (husband of Ann GARLICK, 3rd great-grandaunt – paternal)

1929 – Albert KLEBBA died 85 years ago in Detroit, Michigan at 64 years old.  (husband of Marianna OSTROWSKI, 2nd great-grandaunt – maternal)
