1897 – Hillard Bentgen was born in Chicago, Illinois 115 years ago to William Bentgen & Carrie Hanson.  (2nd cousin 3x removed)

1897 – Annie Klepaczyk was born in Detroit, Michigan 115 years ago to Anthony Klepaczyk & Sophia Nowak.

1898 – Edward Thomas (24) married Anna Kessler (22) in Detroit, Michigan 114 years ago.  (1st cousin 3x removed)

1909 – Anton Ostrowski died 103 years ago in Detroit, Michigan.  He was 74 years old.  (3rd great-grandfather)

Spotlight Sunday – John Franklin Sinyard


Name:  John Franklin Sinyard

Birthday:  about 1859

Parents:  John B. Sinyard & Eliza Garlick

Relationship:  Married to Mary Ann Bittles, father of 5 children.

Children:  Stewart, Margaret, John, Mary & Edward.

Hometown:  born in Michigan

Last Known Residence:  Lemont, Illinois

Education:  able to read and write

Occupation:  Quarry Laborer

Death:  after 1894.  He does not appear in the 1900 census with his family, though Mary is still listed as “married.”  In the 1910 census Mary is listed as a widow.

Cemetery:  Unknown

Relationship to Me:   2nd great-grandfather

Sympathy Saturday – John Bittles


John Bittles is my 3rd great-granduncle.  He immigrated from Ireland with his family and his brother’s family aboard the “City of Mobile” in July of 1857.  The family resided in Lemont, Illinois where he worked as a laborer.  He is buried in Brooks Cemetery in Goodings Grove, Illinois.
