Clare Rock was murdered by a gunshot to his head at the young age of 21 years. He was born in Cadillac, Michigan to Ernest Rock & Olive Rumsey. He somehow made his way to Detroit, Michigan where he married young widow, Rose Lapan, oldest daughter of Anthony Lapan & Maria Ross. An autopsy was performed at Receiving Hospital, and he was buried in St. Louis, Michigan. He worked as a truck driver for Detroit Pressed Steel Company. (husband of great aunt)
Maria Ross (16) & Anthony Lapan (24) married on April 30, 1891 in West Bay City, Bay, Michigan. They were married by a Catholic priest, J.B. Schrinko, and witnesses were Richard Gaborian and Mary Gordon. (clicking on the photo makes it larger.)

Young Daniel Lapan died at 2 months of age from malnutrition and improper food. I know it sounds like negligence, but this was actually common as today it is called “Failure to Thrive.” I imagine his parents, Anthony Lapan & Maria Ross, were horrified by his death as any parents would be. Daniel was the last child of the 12 born. He rests in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Linwood, Bay, Michigan. A simple wooden cross with no dates marks his resting place.

Harriet Hébert was born about 1850 in Clinton County, New York to Toussaint Hébert and Catherine Boire. She married Richard Lapan when she was 16 years old in Quebec, and the details become murky at that point. She appears next in 1880 in Bay County, Michigan with her husband and their children. She died from diabetes in the town of Fraser, and she is buried in the Saint Anne Catholic Cemetery in Linwood, Bay County, Michigan with other family members. The photograph you see comes from Find-A-Grave so I am unaware of where in the cemetery they are located.
